The Charity History

Started in Gloucestershire in 1992 with two separate projects in Cirencester and Stroud & Dursley funded by Social Services, Careers & Education in recognision of the lack of choice of activities out in the local community for young disabled people of the county with day centres being their only option.

In September 1996, Stroud Action for Disability (S.A.D.) took over the running of the project supported by the SCOPE field worker for Gloucestershire, Chris Shepherd.

In March 1997 S.A.D. submitted a successful bid to the National Lottery Board for funding for three years to guarantee a Lifestyles Support Service in the whole of the county. On 1 September 1999 Gloucestershire LIFESTYLES (GLS) became one countywide organization when Cirencester Lifestyles amalgamated with the rest of the county and on 1st April 2001 GLS became an independent Charity and company limited by guarantee. It has been serving people with a disability for over nearly 20 years
